Orbital Shower brings circular water technology to IHG’s first net zero carbon hotel

September 10 2026

Cutting water use by up to 90%We are excited to announce a new pilot partnership with voco Zeal Exeter Science Park - the very first net zero carbon-branded hotel within IHG Hotels & Resorts. The pilot begins with an installation in one guest room over a six-month evaluation period, with the goal of expanding across the property.

Voco Exeter Science Park

Cutting water use by up to 90%

Opened in March 2025, the hotel was built to Passivhaus energy standards and achieved a BREEAM “Outstanding” rating. By installing Orbital Shower, the hotel extends its zero-carbon ambition directly into the guest bathroom - a space where hot water generation historically drives high, persistent operational costs.

Our closed-loop technology purifies and recirculates water in real time right inside the shower:

  • Resource efficiency: Reduces fresh-water consumption by up to 90% and energy use by up to 80%.
  • Uncompromised experience: Delivers a high-flow rate of up to 12 liters per minute, ensuring guests enjoy a luxurious, warm shower without changing their behavior.
  • Measurable data: Through our connected My Water platform, hotel operators can track water and energy savings live for precise operational and sustainability reporting.

A natural fit for future-proof hospitality

Operated entirely on 100% renewable electricity, the hotel benefits from simultaneous savings across three distinct operating costs: municipal water purchasing, water heating energy, and wastewater disposal.

"Water and energy costs are rising for everyone, and any savings we can make without diminishing the guest experience are very welcome. Sustainability that also lowers costs is an easy decision," says Tim Wheeldon of Zeal Hotels.

This installation in Exeter serves as another clear benchmark for how circular water technology helps commercial properties and premium hospitality brands meet aggressive net-zero targets across Europe, North America, and Australia.
